  8.       BACKGROUND
  9.       
  10.       In order to share ReachOut files on a network, use the switch
  11.       "PUBLIC" with the INSTALL command. This switch helps the system
  12.       administrator by copying only batch, parameter, cache, password,
  13.       and other files that actually start and maintain ReachOut, to a
  14.       user's directory. Meanwhile the executable files are safely
  15.       stored on a write protected, shared network drive.
  16.       
  17.       Network Installation
  18.       
  19.       Before installing on individual systems, ask: Are the user's
  20.       Windows files maintained on the network or on the user's hard
  21.       drive? Where should the files created by INSTALL PUBLIC be
  22.       maintained? These questions are particularly important when using
  23.       a network installation of Windows. If the users are not 100%
  24.       dependent on the network for their applications, either the
  25.       network administrator will have to install from the users' work
  26.       stations, or the users will have to install ReachOut from the
  27.       shared network drive themselves.

  29.       NOTE: Portions of this document reference earlier versions of
  30.       Reachout that may not be asked for during your installation.
  31.       
  32.       Before this switch can be used, a full installation of ReachOut
  33.       must be placed into a shareable network drive. There is no
  34.       special method for this step. Simply follow the instructions in
  35.       Chapter 2 of the ReachOut User's Guide.  When asked if you wish
  36.       to modify the SYSTEM.INI files, answer "No." Then proceed as
  37.       follows:
  38.       
  39.        1.  Log into the network and move to ReachOut's shared network
  40.            drive.
  41.        2.  Type INSTALL PUBLIC.
  42.        3.  Continue with the installation as instructed in Chapter 2.
  43.            The "Install from" path should be the shared network
  44.            directory, the "Install to" should be the user's private
  45.            directory on a network or local drive. *The "WIN.INI and
  46.            SYSTEM.INI" path should point to the user's private Windows
  47.            directory, and the "Device Drivers" path should point to the
  48.            user's private Windows device drivers directory.
  49.        4.  When prompted to confirm the paths, be sure to specify one
  50.            that the user has full rights to at all times during a
  51.            session.
  52.        5.  To run ReachOut, have the user change to their user
  53.            directory and run ReachOut
  54.            NOTE:  ReachOut should NOT be invoked from the shared
  55.            directory.
